Obituary - Jane Clair Parker Martie

Jane Clair Parker Martie (Jane Parker) of Pollocksville, NC was called home to be with the Lord on November 25, 2023. Although humble in outward appearances, Jane courageously fought quiet battles with cancer and heart problems - and triumphed for many years. After unexpectedly falling ill - she passed in comfort at Duke Medical Center - while sentiments of appreciation, love, gratitude and remembrances for everything she was and everything she selflessly gave in life were warningly voiced to her by family and lifelong friends while parting.

Jane was born on March 31, 1955. Her parents - the late Mabel & Joe Parker - raised their daughter in the countryside of Eastern NC. It was here that she grew a lifelong love for animals, music, education, strong and meaningful friendships, traditional family and personal values, also her desire to help others however she could. In her early years, her mother helped her learn how to play the piano on weekends, and her dad taught her horseback riding in the field whenever time allowed (this was her self-proclaimed favorite of the two activities). She worked with her dad in the field and helped to plant and nurture all sorts of beautiful flowers and shrubs around the family home - including her beautiful Azaleas  - which still thrive to this day - while caring for her horses and farm pets. She watched her mother work in and retire from the NCDOR, and consequently developed a knack for working in a professional setting. In her college years she attended Campbell University and graduated with a B.A. in Government  - then moved on to enlist in the Army and serve as a Paralegal Clerk.

In the early 1980's she married her first husband and brought her son, Michael D. Idyle into the world. She raised her son as a single mother in the same family home she grew up in, making countless personal sacrifices to give her small family the best quality of life possible while passing down the same values she grew up with. She somehow found the time to work, be a mom, and acquire a teaching certification from East Carolina University in 1988 - where she was additionally inducted into Kappa Delta Pi - an international honor society in education. Throughout the 1990's she worked as a Foreign Language (French) and a K-12 General Education instructor. Ultimately, she joined the team at Pamlico Community College and focused her work on adult education by way of G.E.D. course instruction - retiring in 2022.

Jane is survived by her son Michael; lifelong family friends Vonabe Monette Wiggs, Dorothy Jean Monette Kasten, Victoria (Monette) Foy; dear friends Franklin Higgins, Kim Hough, Florence Giro; and beloved extended family cousins Eddie & Susan Jenkins, Vickie & Darrell Bell, Richard & Brenda Parker. She was preceded in death by her father Joe, mother Mabel, and brother & sister in-law (Charles & Linda Wackerman).
