Jessie Ray Sutton

Jessie Ray Sutton, born March 11, 1962, was surrounded by his family as he went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 8, 2019. “Ray” as he was known to his family and friends served in the United States Air Force from March 16, 1983 to April 15, 1989. He was a man of honor and held on to the strength, love and closeness of his family during his battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his mother Peggy Joyce Sutton, brother John Franklin Sutton and sister Christine Whaley. Survivors are his sister Betty Jean Jones and husband Dennis of Maysville, brother David Leroy Sutton and wife Carla of New Bern and sister Janice Marie Gurganus and husband Travis of Maysville. Ray never had children of his own but loved all of his nieces and his nephew as his own. April Fike, Renee West, Alison Covington, Jason Gurganus, Heather Whaley Grimes, Sami Sutton, Niki Sutton and all of his great nieces and nephews you all were his joy in life. To be able to be a part of your lives and the lives of your children was a blessing in his life. His family would like to thank all of you for your support and prayers during this very difficult time. Funeral services will be held 6:30PM Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Maysville with the Rev. John Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall after the service. Committal service will be at noon Thursday at Coastal Carolina Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville with military honors.
