In profound sorrow, we mourn the passing of Martin “Dwain” Johnson, Jr., a beautiful soul who departed from our lives on February 17, 2024. Born on October 3, 1963 in New Bern, North Carolina, the son of a naval officer and proud mother, Dwain spent the first few years of his life in Italy. From his early teen years, he was eager to continue the family logging business where his grit and love of forestry culminated into a prosperous career in the timber industry. A loving father of two, Dwain supported his children endlessly, even if it meant learning to ride a horse, building a skateboard ramp or hauling equipment home to build a go-cart track on the weekends.
If a person’s life is measured by their number of friends, he has outlived us all. His friendship knew no bounds and his indiscriminate, loving energy was a force to be reckoned with. The awaiting of his first grandchild’s birth brought him great joy and excitement in his final months -and that gives us peace.
Preceded in death by his loving father, Martin “Dee” Johnson and mother, Ruth Frances Banks Johnson, Loving dogs Max, Speckles and Lacey. Dwain is survived by his two children, Shawna Johnson Henderson (Chris) of Raleigh, Colton Dwain Johnson (Alexandra) of Canton; two sisters, Cathie Johnson Foster (Steve) of Gibsonville, and Sherri Johnson Miller (Chuck) of Jacksonville; and loving lab, Layla.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, February 22nd at First Baptist Church of Maysville with the Pastor Steve Evans officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 21st at First Baptist Church of Maysville.
