Obituary

Lucy Simmons Banks, 81, of Pollocksville, passed away, peacefully in her home, on Sunday, July 16,2023. Lucy was an active member of Maysville First Baptist Church for more than 46 years. On Sunday mornings, or just about any time the church doors were open, you could find her playing the piano. She taught GA's and volunteered for Vacation Bible School for many years. She was ready and willing to do anything the church needed at any given moment. When she wasn't at church, you could find her running the office end of the business she and her husband owned, Banks Timber, Inc., until the business was sold. She played an active role in raising her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren until dementia only allowed her to be physically present, but she was still there. Through her slow progression and battle with dementia, her husband was her constant. Whether riding around the pond on the golf cart, watching great-grandchildren play sports or lounging at home, she was content as long as Bobby was within her sight.

Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lucy Simmons. She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband of 46 years, Bobby O. Banks, Sr.; 3 children, Vickie Jenkins Bell (Darrell) of Pollocksville, Eddie Jenkins (Susan) of Pollocksville, and Bobby O. Banks, Jr. (Lisa) of Pollocksville; 3 grandchildren, Derreck Bell (Alicia) of Pollocksville, Brandi Bell Caswell (Mike) of Aurora, and Samantha Hamill (DW) of Pollocksville and; 7 great-grandchildren, Noah Bell, Sadie Bell, Parker Bell, Reece Caswell, Thomas Hamill, William Hamill, and Mason Hamill; and many aunts, uncles and cousins whom she loved dearly.

Service will be held at 6pm, Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Maysville First Baptist Church, 201 Main Street, Maysville, NC, with Pastor Greg Salyer officiating. A visitation will follow the service in the fellowship hall of Maysville First Baptist Church. A private graveside service, for the family, will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Lucy predetermined that donations be made to the Maysville First Baptist Church building fund, PO Box 208, Maysville, NC 28555.

The family personally thanks Evelyn Strayhorn and the members of Craven County Hospice for their angels and amazing services.

Services entrusted to Sayland Funeral Home in Maysville NC.
