                Shirley Ann Bender Eubanks, 82, passed away peacefully Dec. 21, 2020 at Carolina East medical Center. She was born June 5, 1938 to the late Ethel Phillips Bender and the late John Latham Bender, and married her best friend and supporter, Jessie Ray Eubanks, who preceded her in death on August 8, 2016. She is survived by their son, John Ray Eubanks (Elizabeth), who brought them much joy. When John Ray married Elizabeth, Shirley and Jessie gained a grandson, Aaron Bordaes. Shirley was a devoted daughter who cared for her parents in her and Jessie’s home as their health declined.

                A lifetime member of the Pollocksville Presbyterian Church, Shirley was a member of the youth group, Christian Endeavor and attended a church wide PCUSA youth gathering where she felt the call to serve the church in a significant way. Her service to the church included typing and preparing weekly church bulletins on the mineograph, assisting with financial records, servicing as a Deacon and Elder, and serving many terms as Moderator of the Pollocksville Presbyterian Women. Shirley also served at the Coastal Carolina Presbytery, and was named the Moderator of the Coastal Carolina Presbytery Finance Committee. She was a member of the Jones County Historical Society.

               Shirley, a good cook and homemaker, also worked outside the home, first at First Citizens Bank in Jacksonville and then at Jenkins Gas Company in Pollocksville. As her responsibilities grew with Jenkins Gas Company, she became trouble shooter for Jenkins Gas sites in the region. She will be remembered as an energetic and valuable member of Jenkins Gas Company from which she retired.

                 Shirley enjoyed occasional visits to Atlantic City, being bookkeeper for Bender Electric which was owned by Jessie and John, and visiting Germany when Jessie was active in the National Guard.

                  The family acknowledges and express deepest thanks for a special housekeeper, clerical assistant, sometimes cook, and loving caregiver, Sue Morris. Over a period of thirteen years, Sue cared for Shirley’s mother until her death and for Shirley during her illness.

                  A graveside service will be held at 1:00PM Wednesday at the Pollocksville Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas Wesley Moore IV officiating.
